Putting an iPod shuffle on Hold

Because the shuffle is so small and light, you are likely to stuff it in a pocket or other place where it might get jostled. If it gets jostled in just the right place, one of the buttons might get pushed accidentally and disrupt your musical experience. And we can't have that!

caution

Because the shuffle doesn't have a screen, nor does a status light remain lit while the shuffle is on, it is easy to leave it playing when you don't mean to. Remember that if you see green in the slider on the shuffle's back, it is turned on.

To inactivate the buttons on the shuffle, press the Play/Pause button and hold it for about 3 seconds. The green status light will go out and the orange one will come on. When this happens, the shuffle is in Hold mode and its controls will have no effect. If you press a button, the orange status light will light up so you know the shuffle is still in Hold mode, but the control itself will have no effect.

To make the controls active again, press and hold the Play/Pause button for about 3 seconds. When the green status light appears, release the button. The shuffle's controls will become active again.
