The Golden Rules of the CTO

The first golden rule is to place personal interests aside as much as possible and make the decisions that tend to be the best for the company. Above all, you must try to remove yourself from the vision of how decisions will benefit you.

The second rule is to bring the integrity of your office to bear upon your resources, your network, and everything you stand for when you are ready to play.

The third golden rule is to be committed to helping the corporation evolve itself in the way the collective corporation sees fit, but with the caveat that honesty and fair play must always be present.

Finally, an element of giving back is one of the most important contributions we all make as leaders. The most successful CTOs contribute to the communities around them, the ones outside the business. Such contributions truly keep us in touch with the realities of life. When we take this particular step and make these types of commitments, CTOs truly demonstrate leadership for their companies and serve a larger purpose, as well - improving our society.
