Many people are finding their way onto the Web, and they're following a variety of paths to get there. One approach you can take to building an online presence is to create your Web pages and Web sites using Microsoft Word. As you'll see in this chapter, Word provides enough Web page creation features that you can create professional-looking Web pages and Web sites in the same manner you create Word documents. This functionality existed in Word 2000 as well, but a few key changes have made their way into Word 2002. For example, one notable change that experienced Web developers will appreciate is that you can now reduce the size of Web pages created in Word by filtering out Word commands added to your document's HTML source code. That might sound a little convoluted at this point, but it's a change well worth noting, and as you'll soon see this new filtering option is just one of the numerous features found in the Word arsenal of Web page building capabilities.
