Word 2002 includes a multifaceted help system that enables you to find the answers to your questions—in the form you want them. You can rely on an interactive feature called the Office Assistant to lead you through processes, offer suggestions when you appear to get stuck, and prompt you to add common signatures and salutations as you type.

Some experienced users find the Office Assistant a bit annoying, because at first it pops up unexpectedly and takes some time and focus away from what might be a fast-paced production. Although the Assistant lives on in Word 2002, the control is in your court: Not only can you hide the Assistant, but you can also remove it if that's your preference. Beyond the Assistant-level help, Word 2002 adds two solid help features that will enable you to work better and more safely with your documents. The first new feature we cover in this chapter is the Ask A Question box, which appears in the upper right corner of your Word work space. The second is a new crash recovery feature that enables you to recover from those badly timed lockups.
