Keys to Improvements in Word 2003

 < Day Day Up >

With more than 450 million registered users of Office the world over, and more than 600,000 users involved in the beta testing done prior to release, Microsoft product developers have lots of opportunity for feedback. They hear what users struggle with and want; they know how our information needs are changing; and they can anticipate the tools, tricks, and program features that will enable us to take our computers with us and do our work in a faster, smarter, and more professional way.

In the years since the first version of Office was introduced, our worldwide workforce has become increasingly mobile and diverse. We may use Word on a traditional stand-alone desktop system, a laptop, or a Pocket PC. We may share documen  ts with people who live and work in different countries, scattered all over the globe. We need to write, edit, print, fax, e-mail, and publish documents to the World Wide Web. We use the text we create in Word in myriad other documents—presentations, reports, e-mail, databases, and more. What do we need? The flexibility to work any way we need to; the extensibility to allow our data to be used many different ways, and the security to ensure that access to our critical documents is limited and controlled by the right people. Enter Word 2003, with new features that improve collaboration, extend data use beyond the barriers of different formats, enable us to connect and communicate seamlessly, and provide controls for protecting and restricting document access and editing.
