The Bottom Line

I told you that printing was easy with Windows XP! Here are the most important points to remember:

  • You can install multiple printers on a single PC, although you have to select one of these printers as your default printer.

  • Use the Add Printer Wizard to add new printers both local printers and printers installed on other computers on a network and to enable sharing of a printer across the network.

  • When you have more than one computer connected to your system, use your application's Print dialog box to select what printer to use.

  • The Windows Print Manager enables you to manage all print jobs in progress. You can open the Print Manager by clicking a printer's icon in the Printers and Faxes dialog box, or by double-clicking the printer icon in the Windows System Tray.

  • To temporarily pause a print job, double-click the printer icon in the System Tray, select the print job, and then select Document, Pause Printing; to resume a paused print job, double-click the printer icon in the System Tray, select the print job, and then select Document, Pause Printing.
