There are two types of map mashup game sitesthose that support specific real-world and online games, and those that use Google maps as the basis for new online games. In the first category, here are two sites that help you find other gamers to play with:

  • PokerMashup (www.pokermashup.com) Find a real-world poker game anywhere in the U.S.

  • Xbox Live Gamer Map (www.xboxusersgroup.com/forums/vbgamermap.php?do=showmain) Maps Xbox Live players online

Now we come to the category of mashup games. These are games that utilize Google map mashups as part of the game:

  • Find the Landmark (landmark.mapsgame.com) Locate specified landmarks on a Google map of the world, as shown in Figure 19.17

  • Google Map Attack (www.googlemapattack.com) Similar to Find the Landmark; you follow a series of hints to find a location anywhere in the world

  • Road Sign Math (www.roadsignmath.com) A do-it-yourself game of identifying road signs that have mathematical significance (such as a 2 and a 3 over a 5, or a 4 over a 16, and so on)

  • Scavengeroogle (www.bloglander.com/scavengeroogle/) A maps-based online scavenger hunt

  • Tripods (www.thomasscott.net/tripods/) Battle invading tripod markers on a Google map of Manhattan
