There are five site-specific startup files the system manager may want to modify. SYS$MANAGER:SYLOGICALS.COM and SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM are the most commonly modified.
SYS$MANAGER:SYSHUTDWN.COM is commonly modified by the manager for orderly shutdown of the system.
SYS$SYSTEM:OPCCRASH.EXE is used for emergency shutdown. This creates a crash dump as well.
A crash dump is produced whenever OpenVMS encounters an unexpected hardware or software situation.
A crash dump is examined with ANALYZE/CRASH_DUMP.
OpenVMS internals differ on the two architectures.
