To set up a new Outlook account

  1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, double-click the Mail icon.

  3. On the Server Type page, select the type of server to which you are connecting, and then click Next.

  4. On the Internet E-mail Settings page, enter the user information for the account you're setting up, click Next, and then click Finish.

  5. To set up a new e-mail account or change an existing account, click E-mail Accounts.

  6. To change the location in which Outlook stores your data files, click Data Files.

  7. To set up multiple user profiles or change an existing profile, click Show Profiles.

  8. Click Close.

To set up a dial-up connection

  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.

  2. Select the View or change existing e-mail accounts option, and click Next.

  3. Click your e-mail account, and then click the Change button.

  4. Click the More Settings button.

  5. In the dialog box that appears, click the Connection tab, and select the Connect using my phone line option.

  6. In the Modem area, click the Add button.

  7. On the Type of Connection page of the wizard, select the Dial-up to private network option, and click Next.

  8. On the Phone Number to Dial page, type the phone number of your ISP in the Phone Number box.

  9. If appropriate to your situation, select the smart card option you want, and then click Next.

  10. In the Type a name you want for this connection box, type a meaningful name for the connection you are creating (For example, Company Dial-Up Connection), and click Finish.

  11. In the Use the following Dial-up Networking connection list, click the connection you just created, and then click OK.

  12. In the E-mail Accounts Wizard, click Next, and then click Finish.

  • On the toolbar, click the Send/Receive button.

To turn Cached Exchange Mode on or off

  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.

  2. Select the View or change existing e-mail accounts option, and click Next.

  3. Click Microsoft Exchange Server, and then click the Change button.

  4. Select the Use local copy of Mailbox check box.

To change the Cached Exchange Mode connection setting

  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.

  2. Select the View or change existing e-mail accounts option, and click Next.

  3. Click Microsoft Exchange Server, and then click the Change button.

  4. Click the More Settings button.

  5. In the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box, click the Advanced tab, and select the option you want.

  6. Restart Outlook.

To create an offline folder

  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.

  2. Select the View or change existing e-mail accounts option, and click Next.

  3. Click your e-mail account, and then click the Change button.

  4. Click the More Settings button.

  5. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Offline Folder File Settings button.

  6. Click the Disable Offline Use button, and then click Yes.

  7. Click the Offline Folder File Settings button again, and then click the Browse button.

  8. Click the down arrow to the right of the Look in box, and then navigate to the folder you want to use.

  9. Click OK. If Outlook prompts you to create the outlook.ost file, click Yes.

To switch between working online and offline

  • On the File menu, click Work Offline.

To synchronize an offline folder

  1. While working online, display the contents of the folder.

  2. On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive, and click This Folder.
