TSPI

Using Telephony in Applications

Telephony capabilities allow users to optimize telecommunications systems. Users can manage their voice calls efficiently and perform data transfer operations to make telecommuting more productive.

These applications rely on the existence of service providers to support their functionality. The service provider uses TSPI to execute TAPI functions that are called by various applications.

Lesson Summary

Microsoft Windows Telephony consists of the Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) and the Windows Telephony Service Provider Programming interface (TSPI). TAPI provides telephony services to Microsoft Windows applications. TAPI provides personal information managers, icon-driven control of data transmission, and functions to use caller ID. TSPI allows you to provide back-end services that handle requests from application conforming to the Windows Telephony API. TSPI supports ISDN, cellular, PBX, and POTS hardware devices.
