To add a command to a menu

  1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab, and then in the Categories list, click the name of the toolbar on which the command is located.

  2. Scroll down in the Commands list, click the command you want to add, and then drag it to the menu without releasing the mouse button.

  3. When the menu opens, drag to position the insertion bar to the location on the menu where you want to place the command, and then release the mouse button to lock this position.

  4. Click the menu to close it.

  5. In the Customize dialog box, click Close.

To create a new menu on the menu bar and then change its name

  1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab, scroll down to the end of the Categories list, and then click New Menu.

  2. Drag New Menu from the Commands list to the menu bar.

  3. On the menu bar, right-click New Menu.

  4. In the Name box on the shortcut menu, select the text New Menu, and then type a name for the menu.

  5. Press the [ENTER] key to change the menu name and close the menu.

To add a command to a custom menu

  1. Open the Customize dialog box.

  2. In the Categories list of the Customize dialog box, click the name of the toolbar that contains the command you want to add.

  3. In the Commands list, drag the command you want to add onto the empty menu.

To display Standard and Formatting toolbars on two rows

  1. On the right edge of the Standard toolbar, click the Toolbar Options button.

  2. Click Show Buttons on Two Rows.

To add or remove buttons on a toolbar

  1. On the toolbar, click the Toolbar Options button.

  2. Point to Add or Remove Buttons, and then point to the name of the toolbar you want to change.

  3. Clear the check boxes for the buttons you want to remove and select the check boxes for the buttons you want to add.

To restore a toolbar to its default settings

  • On the Standard toolbar, click the Toolbar Options button, point to Add or Remove Buttons, point to the name of the toolbar you want to restore, and then click Reset Toolbar.

To create a custom toolbar

  1. Right-click any toolbar, and then click Customize to open the Customize dialog box.

  2. Click the Toolbars tab, and then click New to open the New Toolbar dialog box.

  3. In the Toolbar name box, type a name for the new toolbar.

  4. Click the down arrow to the right of the Make toolbar available to box, click the name of the current document to make the new toolbar available only to this document, and then click OK.

To add a button to a custom toolbar

  1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.

  2. In the Categories list of the Customize dialog box, click the name of the toolbar that contains the command you want to add.

  3. In the Commands list, drag the button you want to add to the blank toolbar.

To change the default location where templates are stored

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the File Locations tab.

  3. In the File types list, click User templates, and then click Modify.

  4. Navigate to where you want to store templates, and then click OK.

  5. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.

To create a macro

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Record New Macro to open the Record Macro dialog box.

  2. In the Macro name box, type a name for the macro.

  3. Click the down arrow to the right of the Store macro in box, and then click the name of the document or template where you want the macro to be stored.

  4. In the document, perform the steps that you want recorded in the macro.

  5. On the Macro toolbar, click the Stop Recording button.

To run a macro

  1. Place the insertion point where you want the result of the macro to appear.

  2. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Macros.

  3. In the list of macros, click the name of the macro you want to run, and then click Run.

To edit an existing macro

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Macros to open the Macros dialog box.

  2. In the list of macros, click the name of the macro you want, and then click Edit.

  3. Make the changes to the macro in the code window.

  4. On the File menu, click Close and Return to Microsoft Word.
