A common strategy with more capable clients such as PDAs and in-car systems is to let the server determine the relevant portion of the world model needed to support mobile activities over a few minutes to a few hours. The portion of the model is uploaded to the device, which can then operate autonomously until the limits of the model information are reached. In some cases, the core navigational code may also be uploaded. This is a powerful technique in dynamically delivering a data-software combination that looks like a simple service to the onboard application on the other side of the client API.
