Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV)

Defined in Request for Comment (RFC) 2518, an extension to the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) version 1.1 standard that is defined in Request for Comment (RFC) 2518. Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 services that use HTTP, such as Outlook Web Access (OWA), rely on this technology.

Web storage system

A storage platform that provides a single repository for managing multiple types of unstructured information within one infrastructure. Web storage systems combine the features and functionality of the file system, the Web, and a collaboration server (such as Microsoft Exchange Server) through a single, URL-addressable location for storing, accessing, and managing information, as well as building and running applications.

well-connected network

A network that contains only fast connections between domains and hosts. The definition of "fast" is somewhat subjective and may vary from organization to organization.

wide area network (WAN)

Multiple networks connected by slow connections between routers, WAN connections are typically 1.5 megabytes (MB) or less.

Windows 2003 Backup

The backup and restore utility that is provided with Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The utility may be used to back up and restore Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 storage groups.

worm

A subclass of virus. A worm generally spreads without user action and distributes complete copies (possibly modified) of itself across networks. A worm can consume memory or network bandwidth, thus causing a computer to stop responding. See also Trojan horse, virus.
