A collection of services that appears to clients as a physical server. Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 uses Internet protocol virtual servers for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3), Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP), and Internet Message Access Protocol 4 (IMAP4). Virtual servers are also used when configuring instances of Exchange Server 2003 on cluster servers running the Microsoft Cluster Service.
