To perform the exercises in this chapter, you need the following hardware and software:
Two Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, servers installed in the tailspintoys.com Active Directory directory service domain. Server01 should be a domain controller, and Server02 should be a member server. Server01 should be multihomed. Server02 is reconfigured as a recovery server in the troubleshooting lab in this chapter.
Note | If your Active Directory domain is not called tailspintoys.com, there is no need to rename it. Instead, use your domain name rather than tailspintoys.com whenever the latter is mentioned in the chapter exercises. |
Exchange Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, should be installed on both servers.
In the exercises in this chapter, the folder D:\Mybackup on Server01 is used as the backup location. If your servers have tape drives, then these can be used instead to bring the exercises closer to what happens in the real world.
You need to create folders for backup and for transaction log files. As the exercises are written, these are D:\Mybackup and D:\My Transaction Logs on Server01.
A Domain Name System (DNS) server needs to be available. Typically, DNS is installed on the domain controller.
