Insurance Reimbursement for PC Damage

Is your PC specifically covered in the event of a disaster? You might assume it is if it’s located in your home or office. Yet that’s not always the case. Review your current insurance policies carefully now, before you experience a disaster.

The rule of thumb with homeowner’s insurance is that it doesn’t cover the specific value of a PC beyond the similar values attached to other appliances in your home such as a refrigerator or a television.

Renter’s insurance is usually limited to a set amount of money; you might get $5,000 for the complete contents of an apartment or small office space rather than what it may actually cost you to replace all the individual items, including your PC equipment.

Comprehensive office insurance coverage may go a lot farther than homeowner’s or renter’s insurance in helping you recover your actual losses with regard to your computer setup.

If you think you want or need specific coverage for a PC and the value of the data in it, contact your insurance agent to add this coverage. Some plans start as low as about $50 a year for a basic desktop setup (higher for a laptop because of theft and damage potential), and cover a full range of disasters, including flood, fire, theft, and vandalism.
