Facilitating a learning experience can be extremely rewarding, but it is also a challenge. The reward for facilitators comes from the learners: their success when they learn content; use and apply it; grow; and, ultimately, perform better back on the job. It’s a great feeling to watch people’s faces light up when they master a new concept!
The challenge for facilitators comes from the same source as the reward: from the learners. Facilitating learning experiences is about the learners. The focus must be on the learners at all times. For those whose background is in presentations and in content expertise, this is a new paradigm. Many presenters and trainers are used to focusing on themselves and their preparedness for questions, control of the group, and expertise.
