Who Can Use This Book

This book is written with the novice programmer or power user in mind. If you have ever written a batch file for MS-DOS or a shell script for Unix or programmed in any language, you have the skills necessary to do this project. If you have tinkered with the settings on your Linux box, you are ready.

If you have never done any of these things, you are welcome to read this book and give it a try. I hope to give you enough information to help you accomplish the goal.

I do expect you to know how to log in to Linux, start the X Window System, bring up terminal windows , and move around in the directories on your computer. You need to know how to get directory listings. You also need to know how to use a text editor under Linux.
