6.8. What is certification? Is it mandatory?

Companies can license enterprise services that SAP ships in its products and makes widely available in order to create products and solutions that consume them. The license to create a consuming product includes a requirement for products that consume SAP enterprise services to pass a set of certification tests, ensuring the product meets the minimum compatibility and conformance requirements of the services. This certification is required for any product or solution that contains SAP's enterprise services.

SAP will also make available, through the ES-Community, an evaluation license on the same services, ensuring companies have the chance to review and evaluate the services before they are available for building a compatible product.
