Aperture can create JPEG previews of your images during the import process. You can set the size and quality of the previews in Aperture's Preferences window.
1.
Open Aperture.
2.
Choose Aperture > Preferences.
3.
Select the checkbox labeled "New projects automatically generate previews" if it is not already selected.
4.
Drag the Preview Quality slider to 5 Medium.
Adjusting the Preview Quality to 5 Medium results in a good-quality image with a reasonable file size.
5.
From the "Limit preview size" pop-up menu, choose a resolution that corresponds to your display.
Setting the preview to correspond to your display's resolution will limit the file size but maintain a high-quality 100 percent preview of your image. Changing this parameter affects future imports.
Note
Existing images can be updated by Control-clicking a project or image and choosing "Update Previews for Project" or "Update Preview."
6.
Close the Aperture Preferences window.
Now that you've set your Preview parameters, it's time to import.
