Normalizing, as the name implies, is an audio filtering process that changes the level of digital audio so the peak is at a specified level. Simple normalization requires a waveform editor such as SoundForge (Windows) or Peak (Macintosh). When using the normalization feature, normalize at a level of 95 99% of the maximum when this level menu option is available. Some encoders have problems with normalized files at 100%; giving up to 5 decibels (dB) of headroom is often necessary. |
