The key to designing Macromedia Dreamweaver sites for Macromedia Contribute users is to understand the Contribute experience. Although Contribute is based on Dreamweaver technology, there are many differences in the use of the two programs. The Contribute user is intentionally restricted from the full operational range enjoyed by users of Dreamweaver.

The goal of this first lesson is for you to experience Contribute first-hand. The better you under stand the challenges faced by the average contributor, the better you'll be able to craft your sites to ease those challenges. In this lesson, you explore Contribute as a new user would: establishing a connection, browsing to a page, making edits, and publishing the modified page to a live Web site. This lesson concentratesas a new Contribute user wouldon the core task of page editing, including content modification, text formatting, and image replacement. Throughout this lesson, I'll point out common pitfalls encountered by Contribute users. Much of the balance of the book shows you how to create Web sites that eliminate those pitfalls at the source.

A full sample Web site, Bounty General, is online and ready for you to explore with Contribute.
