Recipe 2.5. Importing Illustrator AI and EPS Content

Problem

You want to import Illustrator AI files or EPS files into your Flash document.

Solution

Use Flash to import the content directly.

Discussion

The Illustrator AI and EPS formats are PostScript formats very similar to the PDF format. As such, Flash will import the contents in very much the same way as it imports PDF content. Refer to Recipe 2.4 for more details.

Flash can import Illustrator AI files that are saved as Version 6 through Version 10. Flash can import any EPS file.

It appears that EPS content provides a more accurate representation of text that follows a curve when imported into Flash. The same Illustrator content exported as an AI file and as an EPS file imports more accurately in the EPS format when it comes to text on a path.
