This chapter provides a high-level overview of the lower layer network protocols that compose the SCSI architecture model (SAM) Interconnect technologies. Some historical insight is provided to help readers understand why each technology works the way it does. Key operational characteristics are presented to give readers a "feel" for each technology. Continuing this approach, Chapter 4, "Overview of Modern SCSI Networking Protocols," provides a high-level overview of the upper-layer network protocols that compose the SAM Transport technologies. |
