INTRODUCTION

Using bulleted or numbered lists is a great way to present a series of points in your slides. You can create a numbered or bulleted list by selecting existing text and clicking either the Bullets or Numbering button on the Formatting toolbar, or you can click the button first and then begin typing to create the list.

TIP

Multilevel Lists

PowerPoint enables you to create multilevel bulleted and numbered lists. When typing text into a list, simply press the Tab key to indent the list to a new level.

TIP

Bullets and Numbers

Use bullets when you are listing items that are in no particular order. Use numbers when your items are in an order, such as with a series of steps or a top-ten list.

The Bullets and Numbering dialog box opens. Click the Picture button. (If you want to use a standard bullet, simply double-click one in the dialog box and skip the next step.)

Scroll through the list of available picture bullets. When you find one you like, double-click it.

The text you selected in step 3 is formatted as a bulleted list using the bullet design you selected in step 6.

TIP

Changing Number Styles

To change the numbered list style for example, from Arabic (1, 2, 3) to Roman (I, II, III) open the Format menu and select Bullets and Numbering. Click the Numbered tab, select from the list of styles, and click OK.

TIP

Creating a New List

If you haven't yet created the list you want to number or bullet, click the Numbering or Bullets button on the Formatting toolbar, and then start typing the information. When you press Enter to start a new line, PowerPoint adds the number or bullet automatically. To stop adding bullets or numbers, press the Enter key more than once.
