Summary

You saw how to create a Web service based on existing components, and you looked at a couple of the security mechanisms available to developers. You added a Web reference to a Windows application to call the Web service while maintaining security. And you displayed that information in forms that you built just for that purpose. You also learned to use the WSDL utility to gather technical information about the structures, classes, and methods needed to call a Web service with little effort.

Through this chapter you also gained the experience of setting up UDDI Server and adding Web services to it. You should now have an appreciation for the structural organization of UDDI Server and the ability to search through it programmatically.

In the next chapter you will create an ASP.NET application that serves as an interface for the components you created for your NorthwindTraders application. You will also hook up your Web service to this application so that you gain the experience of calling a Web service from both a Windows and a Web application.
