Setting Your Profile & Personal Options

Each user account includes a profile, which is a collection of information about the user. Any user can access and modify his or her profile at any time, thus keeping the information accurate and up to date.

To view your profile

1.

If necessary, log into your blog and display the Dashboard.

Click the Users link. The Your Profile and Personal Options administration panel should appear (Figure 1).

To modify your profile

1.

Display the Your Profile and Personal Options administration panel (Figure 1).

2.

Modify the fields in the Name area:

  • First name is your first name.

  • Last name is your last name.

  • Nickname is a nickname or alias you may want to use online to identify yourself.

  • Display name publicly as determines how your name appears on the blogprimarily when identified as a post author. The drop-down list includes various versions of the information in the Names area (Figure 2).

Modify or add information in the Contact Info area:

  • E-mail is your e-mail address. This is a required field.

  • Website is the URL for your Web site (if you have one).

  • AIM is your AOL Instant Messenger account name.

  • Yahoo IM is your Yahoo Instant Messenger account name.

  • Jabber / Google Talk is your Jabber or Google Talk account name.

If desired, enter a brief bio in the About yourself box.

To change your password, enter the same new password twice in the Update Your Password boxes.

To specify which editor appears in the Write Post or Write Page administration panel, toggle the check box under Personal Options. By default, WordPress uses the visual rich editor; turning off this check box displays the HTML editor.

Click Update Profile to save your changes.

Tips

  • The Username field in the Name area cannot be modified.

  • If you change one of the Names area fields and want to use that revised name as your public name, you must first click Update Profile.

  • The About yourself information for a user can be displayed with by including the_author_description template tag in a theme's template file. We tell you more about themes and templates in Chapter 6.
