System Profiler


The System Profiler application provides information about your computer's hardware, software, network, and logs. This information can come in handy when you are troubleshooting problems or just need to know more about the hardware and software installed on your computer.

Tips

  • System Profiler was known as Apple System Profiler and had a different interface in previous versions of Mac OS X.

  • Clicking the More Info button in the About This Mac window (Figure 86) launches System Profiler.

To view system information

1.

Open the System Profiler icon in the Utilities folder (Figure 1).

2.

In the Contents list of the System Profiler window, click the type of information you want to view (Figures 87 through 89).

The information appears in the window.

Tips

  • You can click a triangle to the left of an item in any System Profiler window to display or hide detailed information.

  • Clicking an item in the top-right portion of a System Profiler window displays details about that item (Figures 87 through 89).

  • You can use the File menu's Save and Print commands to save or print the information that appears in System Profiler. You might find this handy if you need to document your system's current configuration for troubleshooting or backup purposes.
