Click and Type

Click and Type is a feature that makes it easier to position text in a blank area of a page. You simply double-click with the Click and Type pointer (Figure 37) and enter the text you want to appear there. Word automatically applies necessary formatting to the text to position it where you want it.

Tip

  • Click and Type works only in Page Layout and Online Layout views. Word's views are discussed in Chapter 1.

To enter text with Click and Type

1.

If necessary, switch to Page Layout or Online Layout view.

2.

Position the mouse pointer in an empty area of the document window. The mouse pointer should turn into a Click and Type pointer (Figure 38).

3.

Double-click. The insertion point appears at the mouse pointer (Figure 39).

Tips

  • The appearance of the Click and Type pointer indicates how it will align text at the insertion point. For example, the pointer shown in Figures 37 and 38 indicates that text will be centered (Figure 40). I tell you more about alignment, including how to change it, in Chapter 3.

  • There are some limitations to where you can use the Click and Type feature. Generally speaking, if the Click and Type pointer does not appear, you cannot use it to position text.
