Inserting & Deleting Text

You can insert or delete characters at the insertion point at any time.

  • When you insert characters, any text to the right of the insertion point shifts to the right to make room for new characters (Figures 33 and 34).

  • When you delete text, any text to the right of the insertion point shifts to the left to close up space left by deleted characters (Figures 35 and 36).

  • When you insert or delete text, word wrap adjusts if necessary to comfortably fit characters on each line (Figures 34 and 36).

To insert text

1.

Position the insertion point where you want to insert the text (Figure 33).

2.

Type the text you want to insert (Figure 34).

Tip

  • You can also insert text by pasting the contents of the Clipboard at the insertion point. Using the Clipboard to copy and paste text is covered later in this chapter.


To delete text

1.

Position the insertion point to the right of the character(s) you want to delete (Figure 35).

2.

Press to delete the character to the left of the insertion point (Figure 36).

Or

1.

Position the insertion point to the left of the character(s) you want to delete.

2.

Press to delete the character to the right of the insertion point.

Tip

  • You can also delete text by selecting it and pressing . Selecting text is discussed a little later in this chapter.
