3.8 SUMMARY

Management information is a major topic in most Software Metrics programs. It is to do with the collection of information which can be combined through measurement models so that meaningful information can be conveyed to managers. It is also to do with the presentation of that data and, ultimately, its use to improve the process that supplied the data in the first place. Do not fall into the trap of believing that simply supplying information will bring about change—the metrics program also has to enable change.

Which brings us to the end of this discussion of management information as part of a Software Metrics Program. Much of this chapter is simply an expression of common sense and good practice but then metrics, like most enabling disciplines, is just that.
