Summary

There are many logging packages available to be used in application development but when it comes to developing J2EE components in a distributed environment most implementations fall short. The one that we have selected for use in this chapter, JTrack's JLog (http://www.jtrack.com), provides the support needed to implement distributed logging using JMS.

The framework is an attempt to provide enterprise Java application developers a set of useful tools. The LogService attempts to enhance the usability of the JLog package, as well as provide a flexible, easily configurable logging tool.

We have met and solved some of the challenges involved in implementing distributed logging service using messaging. In the next chapter we will be looking at how XML can enhance the content and portability of our messaging systems.
