The Web container is the most configurable, and frequently reconfigured, component in the Geronimo server (and likely in most J2EE servers). Geronimo comes with two best-in-breed Web containers: Jetty and Apache Tomcat. This chapter explained how to select a Web container and also how to configure the containers. In this chapter, you have seen:
Web deployment descriptor and common elements used for Web container configuration
Three different descriptor types and associated XML namespaces: Generic, Jetty, and Tomcat
Changing the configuration through the config.xml file
Jetty GBeans that you can configure
Although this chapter only focused on the Jetty server in Geronimo, Tomcat’s configuration is significantly more complex and will require its own chapter for explanation. Chapter 11 will be dedicated to Tomcat and its configuration within Geronimo.
