Summary

ActiveMQ is a robust, scalable message broker that is integrated into Geronimo. The default configuration for ActiveMQ is usually sufficient for development but will most likely need some tuning to move into production. This chapter covered some high-level information about the features offered by ActiveMQ, and a bit about its architecture.

The integration of the ActiveMQ message broker within Geronimo and how to customize the message broker configuration were shown, as well as the configuration of JMS resources within Geronimo. Discussions and demonstrations of the Geronimo console were covered throughout the chapter as an easier mechanism for administration and customization than working with XML all the time.
