Take 7

NOTE

Track 7: (Ch 7) Piccolo

Sequence Parameters box: Qua 1/16 note

Instrument Parameter box: Cha 7, Prg 72

Transport Bar: (L) 64.1.1 (R) 66.1.1

Follow these steps:

  1. Record the piccolo part (Figures P5.20 and P5.21). Play it one octave higher than written. This fragment is placed at the end of the clarinet line and just before the pizzicato strings. No confusion.

  2. Copy the piccolo sequence (bars 64 66) and paste to bars 68, 72 and 76. We now have four piccolo sequences.

  3. Select the last two sequences (bars 72 74 and 76 78) and using the Sequence Parameters box, transpose them up a fifth by adding a value of seven (7 semitones) in the Transpose section. Yes, I know everything else went down a fourth, but I fancied a change! Make this permanent with Functions > Sequence Parameter > Normalize Sequence Parameters.

  4. Where shall we place the piccolo player? Over on the right, away from the drunken sailor Pan value 117!

  5. Save Song compare with project5/5.7.

At this point I think a couple of effects would work well at instilling yet more atmosphere to this backdrop. GM effects are not noted for their realism but used carefully , in the background, can work quite well. Let's try the Seashore effect. Back to the top!

The Seashore effect Program 122 on the GM sound set varies considerably from one sound module to another. Some are quite convincing and others are plain awful . Let's hope yours is not like mine, which includes a flock of seagulls!
