Creating Year-End Files

At the end of the year, you should save a copy of the current year's information in a separate file (an archive) and continue using the file. You can then use the archived year-end file when preparing for tax time. A year-end file can contain all of your financial information up to the date you create the year-end file, or you can select a specific timeframe for the transactions that you want to include in the file. In future years, you can use this information for financial projections and reports.

Create a Year-End File

Choose File, File Operations, and then select Year-End Copy.

If you want to continue using the current Quicken file for the coming year, select Do Nothing. My Current Data File Will Remain Unchanged.

If you want to remove all information from your data file, with the exception of transactions dated from a specific date forward, select I Only Want Transactions in My Current Data File Starting with This Date.

Type the date or select it by clicking the calendar icon.

Click Browse to locate the folder where you want to save your archive or copy of the current file.

From the Save In drop-down menu, locate the folder where you want to save the file.

In File Name, type the name of the archive file. You do not need to type the .QDF file extension; Quicken automatically does that for you.

Click Save.

To specify a date for the transactions to be included in the file, click in the box under This Archive Data File Will Contain Transactions Up To and Including and type the date.

Click OK.

Select the Quicken file in which you want to continue to work. Select Current File (recommended) to continue working in the file you've been working in thus far; select Archive File to continue work in the file you just archived.

Click OK.
