(n.) Can be used to provide flexible storage to compute element mapping within N1 Grid operating environments. For more information, see "N1 Grid Data Services Platform" on page 166.
N1 Grid
(n.) Sun's vision, architecture, and set of products that redefine the nature of the data center and its role within an enterprise and the global grid. For more information about the N1 Grid, see "Properties of an N1 Grid System" on page 17.

N1 Grid Console
(n.) Sun management application that enables the configuration, creation, and management of N1 Grid Containers. The N1 Grid Console is a plug-in module for the Sun MC software.
N1 Grid Containers
(n.) The virtualized environment within which a Solaris OS binary or executable service component (for example, a database server instance or an application service instance) runs. It is the analog of what the J2EE environment is for J2EE applications and services (that is, it provides virtualized resources and other services to the hosted service component). For more information, see "N1 Grid Containers" on page 260.
N1 Grid Engine
(n.) Distributed resource management software that maps compute intensive workloads onto heterogeneous networked environments. The name of this product has changed. Only the version number and the edition type should be used to determine the feature set. The previous names were the Sun Grid Engine and the Sun ONE Grid Engine.
N1 Grid Provisioning Server
(n.) Manages a virtualized fabric of resources (for instance, servers, network switches, load balancers, firewalls, storage controllers, and arrays). Virtual farms can be created and automatically deployed onto the fabric of resources. For more information, see "N1 Grid Provisioning Server" on page 258.
N1 Grid Service Provisioning System
(n.) Provides life cycle management for applications and services. The N1 Grid SPS software was originally named CenterRun. CenterRun, and N1 CenterRun are synonymous with N1 Grid SPS. Functional distinctions should be based on version number. For more information, see "N1 Grid Service Provisioning System" on page 263.
NAS
(abb.) Network attached storage
network element
(n.) Something that moves data between compute elements within a network fabric. An Ethernet switch is a network element, as are an IP router, a firewall, and a load balancer.
