Week 1 In Review

for RuBoard

I hope you've enjoyed your first week of Sams Teach Yourself ADO.NET in 21 Days ! Days 1 and 2. should have given you a good introduction to ADO.NET and helped you to understand the history and thought process that went into its design and implementation. As you can tell by now, ADO.NET wasn't designed to solve every problem, but really focuses on the two most common programming models used in today's distributed Web-based applications: accessing data in a disconnected fashion and streaming through data on the server.

The rest of the week focused on the first of the two programming models and should have forced you to look into almost every nook and cranny of the DataSet object. By now, you should feel very comfortable manipulating DataSet objects both graphically and programmatically.

So kick back and take a break (although not a long one) and get ready for next week, when you'll dig into the second major component of ADO.NET, its .NET Data Providers.
