Chapter9.MAKING PHONE CALLS

Chapter 9. MAKING PHONE CALLS

BLACKBERRY BASICS:

  • The Recent Call screen lists all placed and received calls.

  • Place and answer calls using the Phone application.

  • A Speed Dial feature is available with version 4.0 of the handheld software.

  • Manage multiple calls and create conference calls.

  • The Phone application includes a variety of options including Call Barring, TTY, and Smart Dialing.

Being able to work with messages and browsing the Internet is great, but sometimes nothing works better than a phone call. For a long time, people have had to carry both a messaging device and a cellular phone to conduct business on the go. I'm sure I am not alone in saying I'm glad that BlackBerry handhelds have both features built in.

note

Although the software is the same, some models of BlackBerry handhelds have supported phone calls in different ways. Some have speaker phone capability; others use only an earbud. You should make sure you are familiar with your handheld's phone setup first.

Just like messages, there are several ways to begin a phone call, but the simplest is to open the Phone application from the main screen.

tip

Some handheld models (prior to the 7100) also have a Phone button on the top face of the handheld that activates the Phone application at any time without returning to the Home screen.
