Chapter 20. Using SOAP with P2P

by Bilal Siddiqui

In This Chapter

  • What Can We Achieve by Combining Web Services with P2P?

  • P2P Web Services

  • Proposed Improvements

In this chapter we will elaborate upon the advantages of implementing Web services over the P2P infrastructure. We will start with a short description of the current Web services model, which mainly relies on the conventional client-server interaction. We will also present the P2P network model, and the concept of operating Web services on P2P networks.

This discussion will eventually lead us to the idea of integrating Web services with P2P through service gateways. We will consider what is common in these two technologies, the manner in which they compete, and how they can cooperate with each other. Taking JXTA as a sample P2P network, we will develop a service gateway application that can work for the benefit of JXTA peers.
