listusers (SV)

DESCRIPTION

The external listusers command displays a list of all login ( user ) names and the user ID contained in the /etc/passwd file. The output is sorted by login name .

COMMAND FORMAT

The format of the listusers command follows .

 listusers [ -g groups ] [ -l logins ] 

Options

The following options may be used to control how jobs functions.

-g groups A comma-separated list of groups. All user logins belonging to the list of groups are displayed.
-l login A comma-separated list of logins. All user logins belonging to the list of logins are displayed.

The listusers command reads user information from the /etc/passwd file.

APPLICATIONS

The listusers command is useful when you want to know who has an account on the system.

TYPICAL OPERATION

In this activity you use the listusers command to list all current users on the system. Begin at the shell prompt.

1.    Type listusers and press Return . You will see a list of users displayed on your terminal.
2.     Turn to Module 61 to continue the learning sequence.
