11.4 Configuring the New Cluster Member

11.4 Configuring the New Cluster Member

Once in multi-user mode, the configuration of the new cluster member continues with the setup of the system default network interface. The first prompt asks if we are prepared to add the network interface configuration for the new cluster member. We can opt to do this later using the "sysman net_wizard" command or the clu_netsetup(8) command or we can choose to configure the network interface now. For our cluster, we choose to configure the interface now.

clu_add_member was unable to determine the network configuration for the interface associated with this system's hostname. You may configure this interface using the clu_netsetup by answering 'yes' to the following question. If you decide not to run clu_netsetup, then the time it takes the system to boot will be considerably longer. Would you like to run clu_netsetup at this time? [yes]: yes **** TruClusters Add Member Network Interface Configuration **** 1 Configure Interface 2 Exit Enter the number for your choice:1 ***** CONFIGURE/DELETE NETWORK INTERFACES ***** You can configure or delete network interfaces. Configuration information is updated in /etc/rc.config and /etc/hosts. Choose "configure" or "delete" at the prompt. Enter whether you want to "(c)onfigure" or "(d)elete" network interfaces. If you are finished, press the RETURN key:c

Next, we are asked to select the network interface we want to configure. In our case, we select the "ee0" device. Your configuration will most likely be different, so plan which devices you want to use for your network interface.

You will now be asked a series of questions about the system. Default answers are shown in square brackets ([]). To use a default answer, press the RETURN key. This machine contains the following network interfaces: ee0 sl0 Which interface do you want to configure [ee0]:ee0 You want to configure "ee0". Is this correct [yes]? yes

We are then prompted for the hostname and network IP address we will use for this network interface.

Enter the hostname for interface "ee0" []:sheridan.dec.com The hostname for interface "ee0" is "sheridan.dec.com". Is this correct [yes]?yes Enter the Internet Protocol (IP) address for interface "ee0" in dot notation []: 192.168.0.69 The IP address for interface "ee0" is "192.168.0.69". Is this correct [yes]?yes

We are then prompted for the subnet mask for our local network and asked if we use any additional ifconfig(8) flags for the network interface.

Subnetworks allow the systems on a local area network to be on different physical networks. For the following question, use the default answer unless the existing local area network is using subnet routing. If the local area network is using subnet routing, you need to know the subnet mask. Enter the subnet mask in dot notation [255.255.255.0]:255.255.255.0 The subnet mask for "ee0" is "255.255.255.0". Is this correct [yes]?yes For the following question USE THE DEFAULT ANSWER unless you would like to add additional flags (found in the ifconfig reference page) to the ifconfig command. Normally, you will USE THE DEFAULT ANSWER. Do you want to use additional ifconfig flags for this interface [no]? no

Finally, we are asked to confirm the network interface information that we entered before configuration begins.

The configuration looks like: interface "ee0" hostname: "sheridan.dec.com" ifconfig ee0 192.168.0.69 netmask 255.255.255.0 Is this correct [yes]?yes

***** UPDATING /etc/rc.config ***** "ee0" is configured in /etc/rc.config Do you want to configure another network interface [yes]?no Enter whether you want to "(c)onfigure" or "(d)elete" network interfaces. If you are finished, press the RETURN key: **** TruClusters Add Member Network Interface Configuration **** 1 Configure Interface 2 Exit Enter the number for your choice:2 ***** Interface Configuration Completed *****

As soon as the network interface is complete, the boot-related SRM console variables are set for the new cluster member.

 Setting console variables set bootdef_dev = dsk2 set boot_dev = dsk2 set boot_reset = on

If email is configured, it is then clusterized so that all members of the cluster – both existing members and the newly added member – can send and/or receive email.
