Text editing

HP-UX and Linux systems support a variety of native text editors, some of which have graphical interfaces. We do not discuss text editors in this book. Instead, we proceed on the premise that you have been granted network access to a server or workstation managed by someone else. You can readily edit your program files either using an editor on the host system or with any convenient text-editing application on your own Linux, Macintosh, or Windows system. Since source program files are line- and not paragraph-oriented, be sure to save such files in an appropriate text-only format.
