Have you ever wondered what symbols are for? Do you read chapter after chapter in other Flash books and feel they overcomplicate things? Then this one may be for you. The basic rule for converting a shape into a symbol is that you should make a symbol when you are going to reuse any object or shape over and over. So if you have anything on your Stage that you use multiple times, then turn it into a symbol. Then you can place instances of the symbol on your Stage that point back to the original by dragging the symbol from the Library onto your Stage. So there's the basic rule. Of course there are many more reasons to use them, but if you want to delve into all that, then read a book that has the complicated explanations. You won't hurt my feelings, I promise. Well, maybe a little.
