There are about a thousand different ways to select artwork on the Stage in Flash. You can use the Arrow tool and drag, or CTRL-A (CMD-A on Mac) to select everything at once. You can also select individual items in a variety of ways that I could go on and on about. Don't worry, I have no intention of doing that. Now let's say you want to make sure nothing's selected anywhere. I'm sure there's been the occasion where you were trying to use the arrow key in the Actions panel and you ended up moving some object you didn't even know you had selected on the Stage. Well, to prevent this in the future, simply press the ESC key on your keyboard to unselect anything you may have selected. This is effective for objects on the Stage as well as your Timeline. Ah, now you can relax. That is, of course, if you can remember to hit ESC.
