Chapter 16. Introduction to SPARC

In the previous chapter, we introduced you to general concepts of assembly language. As you learned, every CPU has similarities. However, every CPU also has features and concepts that make it quite unique. As such, each CPU's assembly language is also unique.

In this chapter, we introduce you to one assembly language, SPARC assembly. Due to the nature of assembly languages, we will also be introducing you to the SPARC processor and the concepts behind it and what makes it tick.

For those of you who enjoy learning about all the gory details, Appendix A goes into much further detail about both the SPARC ( S calable P rocessor ARC itecture) hardware and the SPARC instruction set.
