You can create your own simple filters with the User Defined Filter facility. When Paint Shop Pro had limited blur, sharpen, and edge detection functions, User Defined Filters were particularly useful for getting fine- tuned effects of these sorts. Paint Shop Pro now has much more powerful adjustment filters, but that doesn't mean User Defined Filters are pass , and I strongly encourage you to give them a try.
To start a new filter, choose Effe c ts > User Defined. You'll then see the User Defined Filter dialog box, which includes a matrix into which you enter values, and a few other controls. The effect that your filter produces depends on the settings you enter.
There are several useful presets for User Defined Filters, including several excellent embossing effects. Be sure to check out the presets, even if you're not interested in creating your own filters. If you do want to try creating your own User Defined Filters, see Chapter 11, "Adding to Your Toolkit."
