Screen Capture

Screen Capture
Q1:

How do I get a picture of my desktop into Photoshop? How do I get a picture or image of a window on my desktop into Photoshop? (I'm using a Macintosh.)

A1:

Press Command-Shift-3 and the Mac OS will take a picture of whatever is on your screen. Then from Photoshop, go to File> Open and look for a file called "Picture 1," usually on your hard drive. (If you take several pictures, they will be named "Picture 2," "Picture 3," etc.) Don't double-click the file or it will launch into another application, not Photoshop. That should do it!

Q2:

How do I take a screen capture?

A2:

Windows: For just the active window, press Alt-Print Screen; for the entire screen, press Print Screen. Now just go to File>New and then choose Edit>Paste in Photoshop.

Macintosh : For just the active window, press Command-Shift-4-Spacebar (in that order); for the entire screen, press Command-Shift-3. Now open the file that's created on your hard disk (see previous question).
