Using the Cameras

The editor has four different viewports, each of which gives you a different view of the level you are building. Three of these views are wireframe fixed viewpoints; the fourth is a dynamic flyaround camera that you can use to see what you’re building on the fly. It’s not a full in-game look like editors such as the Unrealeditor (you can’t see lighting or actors), but it lets you see the level geometry and textures pretty much as they will appear in the game. It has wireframe and textured views that can help quite a bit in seeing what you are building.

The controls for the Textured viewport are:

Hold Left Mouse Button (LMB) and Move: The mouse moves forward, backward, and turns left and right.

Hold Right Mouse Button (RMB) and Move: The mouse rotates the viewpoint 360 degrees to let you look around.

Hold Spacebar Along the LMB: You will strafe the camera up, down, left, and right without actually changing the view angle.

Left-Click: Select brushes or faces, depending on which mode you are in. Right-click in one of the other viewports to switch between modes or go to the Mode menu and switch between them from there.

Controls for the other three viewports are the same:

LMB: Selects brushes in the View window.

RMB: Opens a context menu that lets you switch between modes (Face and Brush) and lets you choose which tool you are going to use (Move, Rotate, Rotate 45, Resize, or Shear) and lets you choose a few other settings.

Some other useful control shortcuts are:

Ctrl+Left-Click: To select multiple brushes or entities, both in the textured preview window and the three wireframe windows.

Shift+Left-Click: In the Textured view to choose a texture from your texture library. Useful for finding a texture you’ve used before—just point and click.

Shift+Hold LMB: Move the mouse to clone brushes and entities. This works in the three wireframe views.

To add a brush to your level, simply click Add to World on the sidebar, hit Enter on your keyboard, or hit the Insert key on your keyboard.
