Basic Navigation

To start, let’s check out one of the Reality Factory editors—RF Edit Pro. Navigate to the Tools directory of your RF install and double-click on RFEditPro.exe to launch the editor. Once it is opened, you will see something similar to Figure 28.1.

Figure 28.1: The Level Editor in Reality Factory.

Note

If you get an error about not being able to find the texture library when opening the editor, please refer to the “Setting Grid Scale and Grid Snap” section later in this chapter for instructions on how to tell the editor where your texture library is, as well as where the other various paths are in your current RF install.

This section will cover creating a basic room in the RF Edit Pro editor. We will create the geometry, texture and light the room, and then test and preview the level in-game to see how it looks.

We have the editor open; where do we start? Let’s start with basic navigation in the editor. Depending on your own preferences, you may wish to hide the Properties sidebar when working because it gives more screen area when editing. If you use dual monitors, you can also turn the Entity and Properties panels into floating panels and move them onto the other screen for better visibility of your workspace. You can show and hide the various elements of the editor using the View menu.
